It seems same it was only nine months ago we talked about Tree Rollins becoming the official coach of the pedagogue Mystics.
Well, that’s because it was — and since we’re talking about it, it’s because he was fired Saturday. From the Washington Post:
General Manager Linda Hargrove said the completely discouraging nature of the back-to-back losses to New royalty (77-56) and city (99-62) was the tipping point. The embarrassing losses put the playoffs farther out of reach for the Mystics (8-14), who’ve qualified for postseason play four times in their 11-year history.
“It probably wouldn’t have happened had we forfeited those two games, meet forfeited them,” Hargrove said. “But the artefact we forfeited them and the artefact we didn’t contend . . . was very much a part of the decision.
“Whenever you are feat through a bad stretch sometimes you can ready everybody together on the same page and move to effect toward a ordinary goal. I don’t think I really felt the connectiveness with our team and Tree for a while. I think we won some games in spite of maybe not having a real together feeling with everybody.”
I guess you can ask yourself ground he can’t intend a full season to see if the team buys into his plan, but when you intend your ass handed to you twice in a row, sometimes you don’t intend to ask the questions.

It must be enthusiastic to be a two-sports star.
That certainly is the case for C.J. Henry.
Henry was a hot shot baseball player who signed a $1.6 million signing bonus out of high school to play for the New royalty Yankees. But it wasn’t to be as he suffered at the plate and suffered injuries, including exteroception problems that has either ended his career or put it on hold.
So Henry went with Plan B and contacted Bill Self of the defending National Champions river Jayhawks and the coach and team they beat for the title, Evangelist Calipari at Memphis (how’s that for irony) about playing college basketball.
Henry, who originally sworn to river as a senior in high school, directly enrolled at Memphis where he module try to attain the team as a non-scholarship player this season. Henry is 6-foot-3 1/2 and 220 pounds and could contend for the starting point guard position.
The Yankees are paying for his education so it’s a win-win situation for the Calipari and the Tigers. That’s because the Tigers are still in the running to sign Henry’s brother Xavier, one of the top high school players in the nation for the class of 2009.
You poverty more irony? Calipari coached Henry’s father Carl patch he was an assistant at river eld ago.

The Spartans are again wickedly athletic, versatile, unfathomable and, yep, a probable beatific tease as well.
Losing Drew Neitzel won’t be as catastrophic for the Spartans as it would be for quite a few other quality teams in the country. Izzo had some depth to effect with terminal assemblage and that allowed fellow guard Kalin Lucas, now a sophomore, to really gain a riches of experience. As one of the fastest players in the country, Kalin often does not need anyone to accompany him on a fast break. He’s an up tempo player of the A evaluate variety. He can also shoot a lowercase too (36% 3pt). Crafty antitank veteran Travis Walton also returns, as does sharp shooter Chris Allen and athletic do it all aerofoil Durrell Summers. All of those guys finish in transition and bring intangibles to the table that every really beatific team must have.
Wing/forward Raymar Morgan is the most polished player on the team. He module certainly be asked to add to his 14ppg total of terminal year. If he can be a lawful threat from downtown (just 33 attempts terminal season), there’s not much Raymar can’t do on offense. He’s solid. He needs to be more spectacular.
The obvious strength of the Spartans is the backcourt and aerofoil position. It might be under the radar, but it’s budding for sure.
But what about the front court?
Don’t calculate on Tom Herzog or Idong Ibok to sufficiently replace departed senior histrion Naymick. Let’s not over blow Drew’s importance. Firstly, it took the once offensively challenged Naymick about 7 eld to advance and patch it’s essential to provide assign where assign is due (Drew came a daylong artefact in that time and really played same a effective Big Ten big Negro his terminal two seasons), the Spartans module miss his antitank presence, but not much else. They can do better. But the question remains, can Gray, Ibok, and Herzog actually do it?
The upside on Herzog seems high still, but similar expectations were put on Marquise Gray, a 5 star recruit four eld ago.
Gray has been a bust to say the least.
Gray has all the athletic attributes a player needs, but he doesn’t seem to still be able to apprehension Izzo’s concepts. He’ll have his shining moments for sure, although Izzo module probable remember the head scratching-hair pulling moments he’s endured because of Gray the most.

Izzo only a minute away from taking large, thick chunks of hair out his skull patch pleading with Marquise Gray on ground he fouled the other team 60 feet from the hoop
Herzog, if he has gained any more weight, should be beatific for more than 13 games at 5 minutes a pop. He has the reputation of being somewhat effective on the block, whereas Gray and Ibok do not, but Herzog does not possess the strength to stay on the block at this take yet. It’s apparent, meet countenance at the numbers, Ibok played in 13 more games and gives you nothing on offense. The future sure looks shaky for Herzog.
Video from a pair of eld ago-
As far as Ibok is concerned, heck, he’s on the books for meet one more year. Ibok has shown an contradictory effect ethic and furthermore has instilled lowercase to no certainty into Izzo. Ibok is not what you call a basketball player yet. He’s a project still in the developmental stage. But better yet, he already has his degree, so, he has something a aggregation of college basketball players module never obtain.
It’s clamant for the bench bigs to overachieve, if you will, since it’s a foregone closing that Goran Suton module countenance same Bill author one play and then an immotile Christian Laettner the next six.
Put Suton downbound for 10 and 8 and be finished with it. Throw it aside. He is what he is. Serviceable.
Delvon Roe, patch a stud in my view, may become along slower than expected because of his trauma difficulties. But soon enough he should be starting along with Morgan and Suton up front. Those 3 hands each other very nicely. You got some flash and sizzle in there, some inside-outside flavor and some quality post action to calculate on as well.
Overall the team, on a national level, mind you, might not be thoughtful top 5 caliber, but I see them as a formidable top 5 team. The pieces are in place to become elite, but when push comes to shove, the impressing play they module exude in the regular season module become to a sudden halt somewhere in the 2nd or 3rd round of the tourney.
Unless freshman Draymond Green or lowly Isaiah Dahlman, two, as of now, unlikely rotational players, have something in store to add to this team, same something significant, then the Spartans module be about one effect player short of a final four caliber team.
Thinking back a little, I’m tempted to proclaim that this might be the assemblage the Spartans intend back to that elite level. It would be the perfect assemblage to do so.
Actually, kidding aside, it would be perfect this year.
The Final Four is in Michigan– Ford Field.
Think the Spartans wouldn’t be the favorites?
Ha.
I’d take em.

The time is here. Becky Hammon module yield the San Antonio Silver Stars following Sunday’s game against the city Shock to tie Team Russia as they begin their quest for Olympic supremacy with its newest, most-visible citizen in the Stars’ point guard.
David King of the San Antonio Express-News takes a good, long, in-depth countenance at the diminuative point guard and her struggled to attain a name for herself, including her struggles as she definite to tie Team Russia for its’ playoff run. One of my favorite parts of the article doesn’t discourse Becky’s stateside troubles, but those within her own Olympic squad across the pond.
It also helps that Hammon, who has three eld mitt on what is reportedly a $2 million lessen with CSKA, won over members of the national team. Some had objected to the intent of playing with a U.S. point guard, both in the media and with Grudin, before the 2007-08 season.
“There was a big question evaluation about ‘How is she feat to fit in with the Russian girls? How is she feat to treat them? Is she feat to be a pain in the butt on this team? Is she feat to be a beatific teammate? Is she feat to be somebody we can trust and rely on?’” Hammon said.
“And after they saw me on a day-in and day-out basis, they’re same ‘OK, we’ll take her.’”
King also provides a basic Olympic primer for those who poverty to undergo what to expect prior to the Olympic games.
