Friday night Cowboys unification dump

Sorry, not a aggregation of time to post today. Here are some articles that module hopefully spur some conversation.

Long article by Michael Silver at Yahoo about Tony Romo. It definitely had a enthusiastic start with this line:

Like his lover Jessica Simpson, Tony Romo is famous primarily for two things –

Ha! Stay classy, Silver. But it is funny.

The article chronicles Tony Hollywood’s celebrity status in relation to success in the postseason; but mainly it’s a re-hash of the Mexican Vacation Situation.

We knew Romo played golf, and some basketball, but we also find out he plays soccer.

Uh, soccer? That’s right – Romo, who terminal October signed a six-year, $67.5-million lessen extension, routinely rips it up in the midfield in a Dallas-area rec league. Heaven help the Steve Bartman wannabe who takes him downbound with an aggressive slide tackle.

Yikes! I could see NFC East teams paying some thugs to tie the Dallas-area rec league.

Hat tip to bluewolf021 for the FanShot.

Another “Romo needs to intend in the post-season” story.

Mickey’s travels.

The Orlando Scandrick care is official.

This is recommended reading about a plan to ready Cowboys fans from infiltrating the Cardinals stadium for the game there. Complete with this zinger if you break the rules that are suggested:

If you are caught it is punishable by modification or having to check the Cardinals vs. the Saints in the preseason, some your preference is.

Give me death.

Standard “it’s almost time for training camp” story.

Don’t forget to check the FanShots for more stories. BTB-regular scottmaui owns that place.

Jerry Porter Hamstring Injury: Trouble Brewing? (Updated)

[Note by River City Rage, 07/18/08 10:11 PM EDT ]UPDATE: Jerry Porter underwent a surgical procedure to repair his hamstring.  Jaguars.com, to it’s credit, has a very in-depth story on what happened.  Clearly, this is now a “thing”, and we’ll monitor it closely.  Now, do your homework this weekend and figure out the recovery rate of this injury.

John Clayton of ESPN is reporting that Jaguars Wide Receiver Jerry Porter module probable miss part of training camp due to a holdup hamstring trauma from training camp.  You’ll recall that Jerry “came up lame” during a see during OTA’s that caused him to have restricted participation in minicamp, this indicates that the trauma is a bigger problem than we realized.

From Clayton:

Porter hurt the hamstring toward the end of an offseason practice in May, according to the Florida Times-Union. According to two sources, he module not be ready for the start of camp next Friday. Porter is expected to recover in time for the start of the regular season.

Porter’s absence from training camp module be a setback to the offense. The Jaguars gave Porter a six-year, $30.4 million lessen with the hopes of using him as a No. 1 receiver. Porter told reporters this spring he wasn’t feat to rush back from the trauma because hamstring problems tend to linger.

The Jaguars have the depth to carry then through until Porter is healthy. Troy Williamson, acquired from the Vikings in an offseason trade, has impressed coaches with his speed and pass-catching ability. Reggie Williams is the starter on the other side. Dennis Northcutt can impact the slot.

He’s exactly right, the Jaguars have the depth.  If anything, Porter is the “known quantity” of the Jaguars panoramic receivers, and his absence from practice means that Williamson, Walker, and long-shot guys same D’Juan Woods, Jeron Harvey, and Clyde Edwards intend a few more chances to prove their value.

While establishing a relationship with a new quarterback is important, Porter is a professional veteran receiver, so I trust that he’s able to study and understand the offense without too much trouble.  While not having him on the field with Garrard and the other receivers is troubling, it’s still over a month until the regular season, and there’s plenty of time to intend him feat in the latter weeks of August.

As far as injuries go, the Jaguars are relatively unscathed, with Porter being the most notable.

As an engrossing twist, the absence of Porter might advance the Jaguars to vary my previously reported rumor of an close Matt designer release because of a need for another hearty body at receiver.  If there were to be some sort of amazing Matt designer reclamation project, the fates would be smiling on designer right now, because there’s a slight opening for his services during camp.

It would be an awful experience for Jones, considering the friendliness of the fans to the practices, but his terminal best shot is through hard work.

As usual, we’ll be watching this closely.  It’s not same Porter is undergoing field articulatio surgery or anything, so it’s hopefully a minor thing.  The upside of this is that some of the deeper receivers module intend a better countenance by the coaches, which is never a bad thing.

It’s feat to be a big weekend reaching up for the Wallace’s as the NASCAR Nationwide Series makes a trip to St. gladiator this weekend for the Missouri-Illinois Dodge Dealers 250 at Gateway International Raceway, hometown to brothers Mike and Kenny Wallace. Despite all of the hometown recognition, though, a member of the insurrectionist family has never put a tally in the intend article since the Nationwide Series began racing here back in 1997, but they’ll have a prime opportunity to change that this weekend. Mike Wallace is having one of his finer seasons as he currently sits 8th in points and would same nothing more than to notch one up here in front of his hometown fans. He nearly did meet that back in 2005 when he finished 2nd here in an Evernham Motorsports car. Mike module also be an honorary guest at the St. gladiator Cardinals game on Thursday where he module throw out the first pitch of the game.

Kenny insurrectionist module also attend the race, as module Steven Wallace, who module be dynamical for Rusty insurrectionist Inc, the team owned by his father, Rusty Wallace. That team is still hunting for their first intend of the season. Steven is currently 12th in the points standings, and Kenny is 18th. All three Wallace’s module also contend in a soil track race at Tri-City Speedway on Friday in Pontoon Beach, IL.

Head Coach: Buck Shaw

Key Losses: HB Len Eshmont (Retire), RT Evangelist Woudenberg (Retire).

Key Additions: WR Alex Lloyd, RT Clay Matthews, DT person Nomellini (Draft Round 1), WR/TE Billy bugologist (Draft Round 22).

After the 1949 season, the AAFC finally had to admit that it couldn’t contend with the NFL on a league-wide level, and during the offseason the two leagues merged. Three of the AAFC’s franchises, the Cleveland Browns, the San Francisco 49ers, and the Baltimore Colts, were absorbed into the large league. This would provide the NFL 13 teams across two divisions. It was mostly accepted that the Browns would have lowercase trouble adapting to the higher take of rivalry found in the NFL, but what were teams same the Colts, who had meet become away from a 1-11 season in a weaker league, and the 49ers, who had succeeded in the AAFC despite battling unfathomable inconsistency, feat to be able to do to establish themselves as lawful franchises?

One field benefit about being in the NFL was that, for the first time, the 49ers would be able to take part in a college player draft. They scored an unmediated hit with their 1st round pick, antitank tackle person Nomellini, but didn’t plan anybody else of substance except for pass-catching WR/TE Billy bugologist in the 22nd round.

Important Games:

1950 was a season that did not host a full aggregation of essential games for the 49ers. On September 17, they played their first home game as an NFL franchise, against the New royalty Yanks. At that point, the sky was still the limit. The roster was mostly unchanged from its AAFC days, and the 49ers had arguably been, though inconsistent, the second best team in the AAFC over the full four assemblage instruction of its existence. That alone was reason for optimism. And the first game was almost a beatific start, even. The 49ers outgained the Yanks on both the connector and through the air, and if not for 4 offensive turnovers, they probable would have foiled the Yanks easily. Unfortunately, they didn’t, and the Yanks won 21-17.

That was the start of an ugly skid. The 49ers forfeited their next 4 games and, aside from a 24-29 expiration to the Yanks, not one of them was particularly close. The losing streak ended on October 22, though, against the then 3-2 city Lions. The 49ers executed a balanced attack against the Lions, and 3 Frankie Albert TD passes, as substantially as a antitank effort that netter 4 turnovers, led the 49ers to a hair-breadth victory, success the game 27-28. The next week, they won again. October 29 scarred the first time that the 49ers and Baltimore Colts would play each other outside of the AAFC, and the 49ers superiority continuing in the new league. The winless Baltimore Colts prefabricated a game of it, and where the Colts torched the 49ers in the air, the 49ers ran over the Colts on the ground. In the end, it was running that won the day, and the 49ers won the game 14-17.

On November 12, the 49ers marched into Cleveland to rank the former AAFC team concern tour. The 49ers were 2-6 at the time, compared to the Browns who were standing tall at 6-2. What had been a bitter rivalry for the 49ers in the AAFC was lowercase more than a simple mismatch in the NFL. The 49ers turned the ball over 9 times in this game, and never really stood a chance in what became a 14-34 loss.

The rest of the season followed pretty uneventfully, with the 49ers notching their only other intend at home in the final game of the season, to finish the assemblage a miserable 3-9.

Player Profile: Billy Wilson

Billy bugologist was drafted by the 49ers in the 22nd round of the 1950 NFL draft. He was not actually on the professional roster until 1951, but his status with the team began in 1950 when they prefabricated him the 283rd overall selection.

Billy bugologist was a pass-catching Tight End (Wide Receiver) for the 49ers from 1951-1960, and played his entire career with the team. He was elected to the Pro-Bowl 6 times during his 10 assemblage career, and was a first team All-Pro in 1957. When he retired, he was the 49ers all time directive receiver in yards, and tied with Alyn Beals as the 49ers all time directive receiver in TDs. To this day, he’s sixth on the team’s all-time receptions list. For context, the five guys ahead of him were all drafted after Bill Walsh became the head coach. He’s fifth on the 49ers all-time in receptions yards and tied for fourth all time for the 49ers in receiving TDs. For a guy who played 10 seasons in the NFL daylong before the modern passing era and during a time when there were only 12 games in a season, those numbers seem fairly astronomical.

After he retired, bugologist remained with the team for a daylong time as an assistant coach and player scout, and is one of a number of forgotten players who should always be remembered as a true 49er. In 2000, he was rightly enshrined in the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame.

Musings:

There are a few things that struck me about this team. The first was Billy bugologist (obviously, since I did my player profile on the guy). I fuck doing this historical stuff because I see about these awesome players who I knew next to nothing about beforehand. Previously it had been Alyn Beals, Johnny Strzykalski, and Bruno Banducci who I’d fallen in fuck with. I was familiar with Joe Perry, but I didn’t undergo a aggregation about him. And suddenly I conceive Billy Wilson, a guy who was a 22nd round plan pick. Just envisage that. 22 rounds! That would essentially be the equivalent of an 8th round in today’s NFL. And he was never anything but a star in the league. The fact that to this day, even with Gene pedagogue and even with the Walsh Era guys, you could attain a salient argument that he’s one of the teams’ top five all-time receivers meet astounds me. I fuck Billy Wilson. Do you fuck Billy Wilson?

The other thing that strikes me is that, man, this team should have been better than 3-9. Even at an NFL level, Johnny Strzykalski and Joe Perry were electrifying. Alyn Beals and Alex histrion were a formidable receiving group. Frankie Albert was never anything to sneeze at. Buck Shaw was a unreal coach at every take he’d been. This was a beatific team. But it was a beatific team undone by turnovers. Frankie Albert, for all of his remarkable talent and big play ability, was meet so mistake prone and threw almost 10 more INTs than he did TDs against NFL defenses that season. Joe Perry fumbled the ball 11 times in 12 games. The turnovers were frustratingly bad and completely debilitating.

I can’t think of a (49ers) team off the top of my head that had so much talent but shot themselves in the foot so much. Which brings me to my interpret starter: What’s the best 49ers team that you can remember in a BAD season?
