It’s funny how the roots of our sports fandom start at such a teen age. I am a huge NBA fan, in addition to doting the NFL. Though I springy in San Antonio now, I grew up in Phoenix and that’s where my fuck of sports began.
When I was very young, there was a topical kids show on early in the morning before school - “The insurrectionist and Ladmo Show”. The show ran from 1954 to 1989 in Phoenix on KPHO-TV. Every banter in Phoenix knew about insurrectionist and Ladmo, as substantially as the “bad guy” Gerald and other characters. It was very goofy and had a aggregation of bad sketches, games and other children’s activities.
Everybody desired to intend on “The insurrectionist and Ladmo Show.” Kids could indite in and try to intend onto the show by art a funny cartoon, making up a jape or whatever. Well my sister (who is two eld older than I am), drew a cartoon and sent it in. She was selected and solicited downbound to the studio to be on the TV show, where she could talk to insurrectionist and Ladmo plus receive a “Ladmo Bag” full of goodies.
Of course, I went to the studio with her to sit in the audience and watch. Well, it was meet my phenomenon that one of the other kids that was selected that period didn’t show up. So Ladmo asked me if I desired to tie my sister on TV! Wow, I was excited.
So my sister and I connected the other kids on stage, where we talked to the hosts and received our Ladmo bags.
When I got my bag home, exclusive was candy, chips and other treats, as substantially as a pair of Phoenix Suns tickets and a pair of knee-high Phoenix Suns socks - you undergo the albescent ones with the bright purple and orange stripes.
Our family went to the Suns game and a basketball fan was born! Though I am no individual a Suns fan, I do remember the teams of the New 70’s and 80’s very substantially with players same Alvin Adams, Kyle Macy, Larry Nance, Truck Robinson, director Davis, the Van Arsdale Brothers, Paul Westphal and some more. Kyle Macy was my first sports crush. But hey, that’s another story.

Last hebdomad at jabandgrapple.com we told you about the proposed Vitali Klitschko - Samuel Peter fight and how Peter module fight some walkover in the interim. Well, a name for that walkover has been bandied about and it’s none other than Andrzej Gołota a/k/a Andrew Golota a/k/a the guy who was perilously close to success the concern heavyweight title in 1996 but couldn’t stop hitting Riddick Bowe in the unmentionables.
“He’s still fighting?” we wondered. It seems. He’s now 40-years-old and in the midst of a modestly successful three-fight comeback. The terminal time I even thought about Gołota was artefact back in 1998.
I was experience in Wrocław, Poland for the summer spending a enthusiastic care of time in the city’s beautiful rynek, its snappy old town center and marketplace. One afternoon a boxing ring appeared alongside a dais, both draped with signs for the topical beer Piast, an undrinkable sweet swill if there ever was one.
I wondered what was feat on and someone said Gołota was reaching to promote the beer and his next fight. This person continuing calling him various unkind things - “stupid bum”, “loser”, “idiot” - and a few others as unmentionable as where he hit Bowe. She wasn’t alone in her opinions. Nearly everyone who passed by the ring gave it a mocking countenance and an angry snort. Here was someone who permit the land downbound with his bonehead moves and prefabricated both himself and his people a sporting laughingstock.
Sure I felt bad for the guy but that doesn’t mean I stayed to see his arrival. Part of me was worried a riot would ensue the other part desired to sit down, enjoy the beautiful period and enjoy a potable beer. Which I did.
Gołota is now experience in Chicago and still has the ability to provide Peter a run. Both are exquisitely egregious foulers and their fight module at small be interesting. Nevertheless, we astonishment what would have happened had he not fouled Bowe in both of those matches. He didn’t have to do it; he had the second fight won. Gołota would have been a hero, he would have been adored by his countrymen, and his certainty wouldn’t have directly been shot.
This time Andrzej I’m in your crossway and hope you can stop the Nigerian’s run through eastern Europe’s top heavyweights at Poland. Peter need not ever attain it to the Ukraine.
The accompanying Piast promo shot is a poster that was sold in March on a Polish auction site. for 8 zł or $3.65 US. Why couldn’t I have found this scheme page earlier!?!?
Anyone else have any Gołota memories? I’d fuck to hear them, especially if mine is off base.

A number of New round plan picks fell into perfect situations where they may be able to shine. While these players shouldn’t be drafted in a redraft fantasy football association in 2008, they do hold value in dynasty leagues.
Lavelle Hawkins, Tennessee Titans
The Titans desperately need help at panoramic receiver and Lavelle Hawkins was the first panoramic receiver they took in the 2008 NFL Draft. They selected him with the 27th pick in the fourth round out of California. Hawkins isn’t a speedster but he can intend open and catch the ball – two traits the Titans desperately need.
Jacob Tamme, Indianapolis Colts
In the fourth round, the Colts took tight end biochemist Tamme. While it was a lowercase bit of a reach, the Colts desperately need a backup tight end. With metropolis Clark being trauma prone and Ben Utecht absent to the Cincinnati Bengals, Tamme could be a long-term answer at tight end.
Jerome Felton, city Lions
The Lions need a running back and they took theologian Felton in the fifth round. He doesn’t have enthusiastic potential because he’s not overly fast or elusive, but he’s a powerful runner who could potentially become a content distinction back – which could attain him valuable downbound the distinction in fantasy football.
Matt Flynn, Green Bay Packers
The Packers drafted quarterback Matt Flynn in the seventh round of the 2008 NFL Draft. With Brett Favre seemingly retired, the Packers have room for quarterbacks on their roster. While Flynn obviously won’t be in the mix to start as a rookie, he could be a solution downbound the road.
