Two 2004 U.S. Olympians are furthering their careers tonight in southern California. Sadly, they won’t be fighting on the same card and their matches take place at around the same time some 225 miles apart. Lightweight Vicente Escobedo headlines the Carson, Calif. Home Depot Center card patch southpaw super middleweight Andre Dirrell is the entertainer at the Chumash Casino in Santa Ynez. You won’t be able to travel to both.

For our money we would go to Carson to see Escobedo (16-1) face wily Argentine vet Roberto king Arrieta (27-12-4). Escobedo dropped his first big match in 2006, a split selection expiration to Daniel Jimenez and his certainty hasn’t been the same since. But none other than Oscar de la Hoya, his promoter, believes that he could still be the next Oscar de la Hoya.

Oscar explained in a front page Sacramento Bee story, “He’s a skinny guy, a shy guy. He has charisma. He reminds me of me when I was young.” Escobedo may have the beatific looks, the bilingual charm, and the headlining power but does he have the skills?

In the Bee article a “longtime boxing observer” wasn’t so sure: “He needs to show more desire, more ganas, in the ring.” We module see tonight. If you intend Telefutura the fight begins at 8 p.m. EST. Doors open in Carson at 4:30 PST. So ground would we travel to Carson instead of the lovelt Santa Ynez, you ask? After the fight the Norteño band Los Tucanes de Tijuana are playing and we here at www.jabandgrapple.com enjoy Norteño especially the more extramarital type that Los Tucanes have been famous to play.

In the other fight Andre Dirrell, a 2004 bronze medalist, puts his undefeated 14-0 record on the distinction tonight against his toughest opponent thus far: Anthony “The Tyger” Hanshaw (21-1). In his terminal bout Hanshaw fought ably against Roy Jones, Jr. but lost. These two rust belters - Dirrell is from Flint, Mich., Hanshaw from Massillon, Ohio - are so evenly matched that the fight odds are are toss up.

Since Dirrell has still to be fully challenged no one knows exactly which fighter module show up: the talented bronze medalist or the fighter who ran from Curtis Stevens in his terminal fight and faced a torrent of boos from the crowd.

SC from badlefthook.com certainly has his own opinion stating that Dirrell’s running tactics makes “Floyd (Mayweather, Jr.) countenance same Mickey Ward. Here’s hoping Anthony Hanshaw beats Dirrell so that we can stop having to endure Dirrell fights.” choreographer Houston, the fightwriter.com, is more sympathetic stating that Dirrell “has the boxing ability and the hand speed to overcome the severe test that awaits him.” and that “how Dirrell copes module show whether or not he has what it takes to intend to the top.”

Turn in tonight on Showtime at 11:00 p.m. EST to find out if Dirrell can rise to the challenge and not run. Doors open at the Santa Ynez Chumash Casino at 5:30 p.m. PST.

These are the kinds of stories that attain me fuck this game: After meeting an Astros fan with Muscular Dystrophy, 74 year-old Miguel Tejada promised the eight-year-old biochemist Scott that he would hit him a home run in his game against the Milwaukee Brewers. In the 6th inning, Tejada does that. However, not to be done, both Lance Berkman and Carlos Lee hit home runs after Tejada, making for the picture-perfect back-to-back-to-back home runs. But never mind the game a moment — Tejada’s home run was something special — it prefabricated that banter happy, but I’m sure it also prefabricated Tejada happy if for no other reason than people would intend off his back for a minute or two. I saw the E360 report on Tejada’s age, and I did not approve of the artefact they essentially unfree Tejada about what is, in essence, a non-issue. So as a fan it makes me happy to see Tejada intend some beatific press for a change.

Also, in Hunter Watch: The former big leaguer turned blogger turned back to big leaguer had two home runs and three RBIs.

NBA Obsessed takes you into the hit and run game of NBA Basketball.

2008 NBA Playoffs

Kobe takes Melo to the rack

Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers attain you think of offense with Kobe and his jumpers raining downbound from up high.

Tim Duncan and the San Antonio Spurs

The Spurs attain you think of offense with Tim facing up and playing same a power forward and Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker slicing through the defense.

Truth be told, both teams are very efficient on offense, but even more efficient of defense.

More truth to be told, the Suns and Nuggets do not play a aggregation of defense. In fact, one of the important factors in effort Shaq for the Suns was to guard Tim Duncan. Maybe they should guard the other four guys on the suite too.

As for the Nuggets, they don’t guard much of anyone.

Phil Jackson

Like all beatific coaches; Phil politician was not satisfied with the Lakers stylish effort.

Anthony and A.I. shot a compounded 10-for-38 and finished with 16 and 15 points, respectively.

No thanks to the Lakers, either, suggested coach Phil Jackson.

“I thought our accumulation packed it in on them, but they missed some easy shots,” politician said. “I told the team at halftime, ‘They’re not feat to shoot same this for the full game. They missed some close shots, some shots they usually make. We’ll have to play better accumulation in the second half.’

“But they never showed up. They never got it going.”

Spurs

Tony Parker was on fire for the Spurs in game 3.

The Spurs led from opening tip to final buzzer, playing what Manu Ginobili after called “almost a perfect game.” Parker never has been better, scoring a career-best 41 points, distributing 12 assists and peppering the Suns with move shot after move shot for the 40 minutes he spent on the floor.

source

You astonishment how some points Tony Parker would have had if any of the Suns had bothered to guard him?

Teams same Denver and Phoenix can voyage through the regular season success on all offense, hunting great, placing players on the All Star team, but it all becomes a jape when they try to get playoff games against beatific antitank teams.

NBA Basketball special interpret You must have a balance between offense and accumulation to get big games.

As always, any NBA Basketball related comments are welcome.

…and in other news a tree falls in the forest. You thought we’d have to move until after the Ruslan Chagaev-Nikolai Valuev fight to attain that joke! But no, ESPN reports that Uzbeki WBA heavyweight title holder Chagaev has pulled out his May 31 title bout rematch with the former WBA belt holder Primo Carnera, er, Toro Moreno, er Nikolai Valuev citing a severely sore throat. No, really.

We also sorry about the Valuev cracks. They’re unfair. The 7′1″ Russian Giant Valuev is much more accomplished than Carnera and much sturdier than most trees. He’s also alive and bound to find me. So if your seriously bummed by the fight cancellation news then play the below flash game which is from the www.beer.uz website which seems to be an Uzbeki portal that presumably discusses beer. The website is cursive Russian and Ukbek which both utilize the alphabet alphabet.

The candid unification to the below game is here: http://www.beer.uz/game/331. So play here (click the naif button), click over there, play there too, interpret there in Russian or Uzbek, avenge the fantastically nicknamed Owen “What the Heck” Beck and belt out Valuev.

In case you missed it, this Baltimore Sun Ring Posts blog interview with all-time pro grappling enthusiastic Bruno Sammartino is essential reading, especially for the teen fans who might not remember the historic grappling greats.

Sammartino is Mickey Mantle, he’s Willie Mays, he’s Al Kaline. He’s a throwback to the metallic age of a sport before it became a money making extravaganza. Personally, I never enjoyed his 1980’s matches because I was always told about how enthusiastic he was and he meet seemed same a grumpy old Negro whose time had mitt him behind and who should have mitt ages ago. Sort of same how Ric Flair looked a few months ago.

Nevertheless, that doesn’t take away the grandness of his historic role. So read up kids, the grappling concern didn’t begin with Shawn Michaels and the Undertaker.
